The end of our motorhome tour!! 15th March. Appleby

Drove up to a place not too far from Penrith called Appleby. Not much to say as we didn’t do much or see much. The site is nice but the weather is naff, very depressing. Next stop home.
We have to get a couple (quite a few actually) of repairs to do to the van before it is returned on Friday so will be home early next week to have them done.
Apart from that we are all fine, a little depressed as our jolly comes to an end,….fear not, I already have a plan for the next one!!

14th March. York

Had a wander round York today. We walked the old city walls, had a look at some of the sites and went to the Yorvic centre.
The Yorvic is a museum/stage type thing which you go around on a moving capsule. It takes you through the town of York in and around the 10th century. It is a really interesting place, with all the artefacts found in archaeological digs around the city...sounds a bit naff but actually quite interesting.
Tonight was fish and chips night at the caravan club!! Yes...a wee man comes along in his chippy van and drives around the site tooting his horn, then parks up and starts frying! When in Rome and all that, so I joined the queue!!
I'm surprised the caravan club don't provide a tannoy announcement!!;-)
“bing, bong. Good evening campers……”

13th March. York

Arrived in York thisafternoon. Went for a quick walk around the city which is very nice. Pricey, though, for all the attractions.

We'll go in tomorrow for a proper scout around.

Hello everyboby. I thought I would say a few words just in case you all forgot I was here!
So we are still camping, but it's so much more enjoyable now that we have the van fixed. I don't need to hold my breath anymore every time we go over a bump in fear of the wheel falling off! Ian put it into a garage in Ashwell and I think the entire village got called out to have a look at this wheel. Talk of the town, yet again.. Anyway we are back in the "Caravan Club" camp sites and the showers are fab. Every where is so clean....much more enjoyable.

We had a nice few days with Ian's auntie Trina, who took good care of us. It was also lovely to see Granny Joan and Mike.

Katie enjoyed her swimming yesterday. We may even have to rejoin Greens gym so we can use the pool. My daughter may become the next Olympic medal winner for swimming...even with her rubber ring!

Well thats all my chat...we are off to Penrith next and then Dumfries then sunny Glasgow (horay)xxx

12 March. Woodhill Spa.

Took ourselves up to woodhall spa today which is midway up England on the right hand side. We found a nice looking site (not caravan club) which boasted everything with bells on. It's kind of a country club set up.

Very nice but not up to standard apparently!!

Anyway, Woodhall spa is a lovely place, small village with lots of shops etc.

Katie had her first swim today, we took her and her blow up ring, off to the onsite pool. Her blow up ring could easily double as a 6 man life raft on board, but better safe than sorry!! She loved it, kicking her wee legs, splashing her hands and chatting away to the other swimmers.
We're not staying at this site so we're off up to York tomorrow.

Obviously, the picture is Sandra quality, but it's what we've all come to expect!!

11th March. St. Albans

Today we D-day for the camper.

It went in to get repaired, so we hired a car for the day and took ourselves off siteseeing.
The mechanic reakoned it was either something simple and relativly cheap or something major and not very cheap. He was going to replace the simple thing first and take it from there. .... well, my money dance and crossed fingers worked!!! The first option did the trick!

We went to St Albans, where my mother is from. Had a wander round the town and went to see her old house, which is now being demolished and developed. (picts. for my mother, the side one is from where the garage went out onto little acre, looking back to the dell and the t.court.)

After aimlessly trying to find our way back we past the place my granddad is burried so I went in to say hello and tell him all about his new great grand daughter. The Scottish accent used to stumble him, but at least he knew who it was!! ;-)

Apart from that we were just excited to get the van back this afternoon in full working order. Even I wouldn't have driven it any further, so you can imagine how bad it was!!

10th March, Baldock

Peacefull day. Trina came over today to rescue us incase the van was taken in for repair. We went to see katies great gran and her great uncle was also there. So she had a good look at the new rellies, had a quick moan, then sat back and chatted away.

Nice to see them both.

As for the van, it is being repaired tomorrow. We've hired a car for the day so we can go exploring.

We weathered last nights storm without too much bother, today turned out quite nice, but we're waiting for round two on the storm front. Shouldn't be bad though.

8th. March. Baldock

We arrived in Baldock today, this was our first stop on the way down.

Found a garage in the village, willing to look at the van!! Ye Ha, finally. He's going to look at it on Monday morning.

Spoke to my aunt trina today, the one who was at the wedding, we're off to hers for lunch tomorrow. Will maybe pop in and see great gran too.

Apart from that, all quiet. The site is nice but the reality of going home is creeping in, for all the disasters it has been good fun and we have pretty much done what we set out to do. The only dilema is what to do next!!??

Even Sandra isn't overly keen to go back, although if I suggested another month in this thing I don't suppose that would be an option of choice!! ;-)

7th March. Somewhere on the M4!

After a fruitless morning trying to find a garage in Truro we decided to move on. We headed off for Bristol with a view to visiting Bath, seen it on the telly looks a nice place.. So We arrive at the site in Bristol at around 4pm..."we're full"...who uses a campsite in March??!!!
Well, we don't even flinch anymore!! "just drive to the next service station" comes the cry. So here we are, sat in a service station on the M4.
I tell you what, though, there's money in the whole campsite business!! The place we were at last night, if it was full, would take over 2 1/2 grand a day!! and it was at least 2 thirds full, in March! The thing is, nobody does anything, all you get is electric and toilets and showers (albeit immaculate) The only time you see anyone is when they take your money..and they're not even pleasent about it!!! I feel a venture comming on!!

We are heading back up to Baldock tomorrow, my favourite auntie will know who can fix this god forsaken heap.. Knowing our luck, she'll be out or on holiday!!

I hear there is some bad weather comming in so we will stay down here 'till it passes.

Katie will get to meet her great gran, so that will be nice.

6th March Arrived back in UK.

We had a nice channel crossing last night. Arrived Uk 8am this morning, made our way to Truro. We're in a very pristine site, not quite what we're used to...it's one of those places you feel the need whisper!!

Needless to say, our arrival twitched a few curtains.... The van is black filthy and if one more person points to my wheel!!

We're like Ondslow and Co. from the Bucket family.
