Well I was right, the views from the road side were quite something....
Thats about all that can be said about today, the rest was an utter disaster. I've decided this country doesn't like me much and is trying to tell me something.
Hows this for carry on camping?......
The place we stopped at had a sign saying 'on the 1st and 3rd Friday of the month there was no parking, so the road sweeper could do his bit'. It being the 14th I thought it couldn't be the 1st or the 3rd.
6:50am I got ...BBBBBEEEEEEEEPPPPPPP!! and thought I would just move the van, thinking it must be the road sweeper. It was him, but I couldn't move...my battery had died!!!
For those of you that don't know, there are two batteries in a camper, one for the living area and one for the engine. The engine one had gone flat - yes, yet again my fault, I had left the parking lights on, as you do.
Well!, i thought, I had prepared for this eventuality in my "when the shit hits the fan" scenarios and proceeded to bring out the generator (I had bought it specially because it had a battery charger connection along with the clips to go with it)
It's a pull cord ignition affair, rather was..the sodding thing broke on me. no,no not something simple like the cord. Oh no, the mechanism that recoils, so unfixable.
Bear in mind this is now 7;15 in the morning...no coffee, no fag, Sandra looking somewhat pale and bemused and Katie none the wiser 'cause it's breakfast time.
Sod it, I phoned the breakdown people and we toured round the town while we were waiting.
Beautiful place, you see you cant get big busses to it because of the narrow tunnels leading either direction so it wasn't too touristy, very nice.
I cant't remember if I mentioned the tunnels last night, thats another carry on camping.. the entrance to the tunnel has the dimentions ' 3m high 1.8m width' we're 3m high and 2.3m width!!
I had a quick think.
The tunnels are regulated by traffic lights which run at specific times, 10past, 20 past etc. I decided to let everyone behind me go infront...just in case I had to reverse out!! Needless to say we made it, I figured they must allow some leaway in the dimentions:-)
We moved on after our repair having done the town only to find the camp site shut, OK, I have a back up in my WTSHTF scenario, we go there,....shut.

Bear in mind these place advertise being open, one last bolt hole option, an 'aire'. Sat Nav Jean takes us yet again half way round europe to get to the place, in fact it didn't get us there at all, having been directed round the town, about 3 times by this sodding peice of modern technology - I turned it off. Rather go with instinct and dodgy road signs as oposed to shit your pants narrow roads which sat nav takes you down!!
So we're in Diano Marina near the border with France (not near enough! and the wrong side) in an 'Aire' which is mobbed, there has to be at least 200 campers here..tell you about it tomorrow.
