8th. March. Baldock

We arrived in Baldock today, this was our first stop on the way down.

Found a garage in the village, willing to look at the van!! Ye Ha, finally. He's going to look at it on Monday morning.

Spoke to my aunt trina today, the one who was at the wedding, we're off to hers for lunch tomorrow. Will maybe pop in and see great gran too.

Apart from that, all quiet. The site is nice but the reality of going home is creeping in, for all the disasters it has been good fun and we have pretty much done what we set out to do. The only dilema is what to do next!!??

Even Sandra isn't overly keen to go back, although if I suggested another month in this thing I don't suppose that would be an option of choice!! ;-)

7th March. Somewhere on the M4!

After a fruitless morning trying to find a garage in Truro we decided to move on. We headed off for Bristol with a view to visiting Bath, seen it on the telly looks a nice place.. So We arrive at the site in Bristol at around 4pm..."we're full"...who uses a campsite in March??!!!
Well, we don't even flinch anymore!! "just drive to the next service station" comes the cry. So here we are, sat in a service station on the M4.
I tell you what, though, there's money in the whole campsite business!! The place we were at last night, if it was full, would take over 2 1/2 grand a day!! and it was at least 2 thirds full, in March! The thing is, nobody does anything, all you get is electric and toilets and showers (albeit immaculate) The only time you see anyone is when they take your money..and they're not even pleasent about it!!! I feel a venture comming on!!

We are heading back up to Baldock tomorrow, my favourite auntie will know who can fix this god forsaken heap.. Knowing our luck, she'll be out or on holiday!!

I hear there is some bad weather comming in so we will stay down here 'till it passes.

Katie will get to meet her great gran, so that will be nice.

6th March Arrived back in UK.

We had a nice channel crossing last night. Arrived Uk 8am this morning, made our way to Truro. We're in a very pristine site, not quite what we're used to...it's one of those places you feel the need whisper!!

Needless to say, our arrival twitched a few curtains.... The van is black filthy and if one more person points to my wheel!!

We're like Ondslow and Co. from the Bucket family.

4th March. St. Malo

Took ourselves off to Mont St. Michel. It used to be a small island cut off by tidal waters but now has a causeway leading to it. When I was last there, the car park used to flood every high tide! They seem to have fixed the problem now though.

It’s a really nice place, it’s kind of like stepping back in time, the streets and the buildings all as they were a couple of centuries ago, however with a modern touristy scene within. Odd mixture but very nice.

The focal point of Mont St. Michel is the abbey, steeped in history and steep in price!!
Apart from that, nothing to report. Katie her usual self, Sandra too.

Hello people. We had a lovely day today (not often you hear me say that eh? ) Our little trip to Mont St. Michel was very nice. I had to keep asking Ian “what’s this place called again, how do you pronounce it?”. Ian tells me him and Lee were taken on holiday near there when they where younger. He was showing me the part in the Abby they used to run round. Although he mentioned ,several times, that in “his day” they did not have to pay to get in! Katie’s pram got left at the bottom of the million steps this time. I even got to sneak into the touristy knick-knack bit and buy Katie a book about the adventures of Mont St. Michel.
The camper van is still holding together, although, it’s a bit embarrassing when you drive into car parks like the one today. We drove into the car park allocated to “motor homes” and it’s full of these deluxe camper vans that have everything attached to them. Then there is us with our bent wheel, bits hanging off and masking taped all over!!!! We do get a few looks. Ah well not too worry , the van will soon be in that same safe place that sat nav jean went to. Good night folks xxx

3rd March. St. Malo

We left Nantes today, eventually! We went shopping first at ‘leclerc’ supermarket, got the shopping done and went for something to eat, and a place to feed Katie…well we got a bit carried away with this restaurant, it was lovely, three courses later and full bellies we were on our way.
So, on route to St. Malo we (well I) decided to have a quick visit to Dinan , which was on the way anyway.
Dinan is a lovely place, very olde. See picts.
I had been before when I was younger. I have always remembered having a slice of pizza from this shop which was lovely, so I thought I might see if the place was still there…’fraid not, it’s a bank now!!
Oh well, back down the ‘vertical cobbled street’ where we (Sandra) had eyed a cake shop, the kind lady even heated young Katies bottle up!!
All’s well, we’re booked on the 10pm ferry from Roscoff on Wednesday night. Will so some site seeing before then.
One noticeable thing…..the RAIN! We haven’t had rain 4 weeks and the temperature isn’t quite what we’re used to!! J
Breaking us in gently for the UK….Boooo!

(Sandra) Yes I had forgotten about how awful the wind and rain together is. I’ve been so busy moaning about this death trap we are travelling in that I’ve not appreciated how lovely the weather down South is. You know I would even consider living half in warm country and half back home (only half the year though!). Ian’s trying to find a way of making a living so we could look into this possibility. But we know where Ian’s hair brained ideas leads us!!! So I guess it’s back to setting up yet another “lazy dayz” till we have this brain wave.
Ian thinks he’s really cool now because he can have full conversations in French. It’s amazing how fluent his French is when he needs tobacco or internet connection . I now know that microwave is “micro-on” and if you wave Katie’s bottle in their face, and say this, they get me!!
Fiona you were right, Dinan is beautiful, and you were right to tell us to park the beast outside the village. Tiny streets, mostly up hill. Thank the lord sat nav jean has passed away or she’d have had us driving up all sorts.
Oh I liked the big shopping centre we were in today. The lunch was yummy. Not having facilities to cook makes you really appreciate your grub. So we are off to another picturesque village tomorrow. Hope the weather improves…I am on my hols after all xxx

2nd March. Nantes

Did Nantes today, nice city, a bit of a mix of ultra modern with ye olde still in places. Some lovely buildings, cathedrals and a castle type thing, complete with moat. The queen of Frances’ house, back in the day apparently.
Didn’t do anything terribly exciting, could do with another couple of days here to see the touristy sites but can’t have everything!
We tried to go shopping this morning but of course the supermarkets are shut!! Now, in a big city, you would think they would be open??? I guess they like their Sundays!
Have just had diner. Sandra took a notion for Chinese tonight, so I took the tram in to town to find a take away while she bathed and fed Katie.. Beautiful food!! Hit the spot..
Good tram system, they actually come when they say they will, clean and cheap too!
Picture of Katie brushing her tooth!! (usual Sandra quality, apologies J )

Hi it’s Sandra here again. No dramas happened so we are nice and relaxed, for a change! Did Ian tell you….. No gas …..yes what did I say, they don’t have bottled Calor Gas here and their gas doesn’t fit our hose. Apparently it’s only France that don’t do our gas bottles, now had we been in Italy, no problem. Typical! Yesterday was cup a soup and sandwich for dinner, tonight it’s Chinese takeaway. But not to worry because (without any further disasters) we will be back in the UK on Thursday . Cornwall here we come. Oh just a little extra message to all those birthdays we are going to miss. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Ross (for Sunday) HAPPY BIRTHDAY Janice (for Tuesday) and HAPPY BIRTHDAY Diane (for Wednesday)…see u soon xxxx
